Court rooms, I suppose, are usually not a fun place to be. However, when you are there for the purpose of witnessing an adoption, they are THE happiest places on earth! You look around and see smiles on literally everyone’s faces (even the judge!). There were likely tough times and heartache that led up to this special day, but there is no evidence of that today as the judge declares this new family whole and healed, and makes official what they have all already known in their hearts.
These two precious girls have been a part of the Borchardt family for two years; and now they get to change their last name and birth certificates to reflect what has already been a reality for them for so long. One of my favorite parts of adoption hearings is when the kids get to pick out stuffed animals and “adopt” them as well. They have to raise their hands and promise to the judge that they will take care of them and love them forever and ever. PRE.CIOUS.
I would be lying if I said that I didn’t have to dry my eyes a few times to be able to review some of the shots I had just taken. It’s so fun to watch deserving kids gain a forever family! These girls are absolutely amazing, sweet, kind, precious, and all of the other positive adjectives you can think of. I could say the same for the rest of the family. So much love was in that courtroom and I am so grateful I was asked to be a part of it.
The girls’ mom had this to say about their journey to adoption:
“We’ve always known we wanted to adopt even before we were married. Jasmine and Lexi are 6 months apart from our bio son Barrett. We found out on a Monday that we were expecting and Friday we received a call about Jasmine and Lexi. We have experienced more emotions and challenges and love as parents than we ever imagined possible. It’s crazy to see the difference every year makes. Both Jasmine and Lexi have had to overcome a lot of different circumstances but the plan God has for them is even greater than we could ever imagine.”
Borchardt family, I thank God for you and am excited to see how He will use your story to draw others closer to Himself. I can see that you all are a light in this sometimes very dark world, and I am praying so many blessings for all of you! Thanks for letting me be a tiny part in your beautiful story!
